Technical Specifications:
This unit represents the most advanced portable incubator available in the world today. It was designed following a request from David le Mesurier of the Nad Al Shiba Avian Research Centre in Dubai.
They had a requirement to move valuable eggs by both off road vehicle and helicopter and needed a unit that could be run for longer periods from a mains supply or from a car cigar lighter socket and via a battery backup.
This Incubator is specially designed for use transporting eggs needing to be incubated during transit. It can also be used as a standby unit during mains supply failure.
The A.B. Ultra Portable Incubator has been designed within a robust transit case with all of its inherent strength and insulation properties intact. Inside the case an insulated housing contains the aluminium frame work and purpose built trays to cradle delicate and rare eggs whilst providing conditions required to sustain embryonic development. The units’ construction will conserve heat and thus electrical energy from a vehicle or battery supply. Being a Moving-air Incubator, the air is circulated by a fan in the bottom of the inner incubation area, the air is drawn upwards over the heated sides, and up to enter the egg area from above. The sides of the incubator are aluminium and the egg holders are HD PVC, in which the eggs are placed, between foam pads. (Each set of trays are custom made to egg dimensions supplied by the customer) This gives an even air flow throughout the egg area.
The Incubator operates from 12v DC supply, via a lead with a cigar lighter plug fitting, or a similar lead which has crocodile clips for use on a battery. A third lead is supplied to run directly from the mains supply voltage between 90 and 250v ac. The 4 power resistor heaters are closely regulated by the latest microprocessor thermostat housed in a control panel inside the top of the cabinet, this prevents accidental adjustments during transport. A full range of temperatures can be obtained via the press button adjustment panel on the microprocessor. (2O.O°C - 39O°C). (Note; maintaining incubation temperatures are subject to an ambient of 1O°C/5O°F or more). The internal temperature can be monitored from the external digital readout. Heat and power indicator lights offer a visual check as to performance. Each circuit is protected with externally accessible fuses and spares are carried inside the unit. A strong integrated carrying handle is fitted to the cabinet with lockable hasps and safety catches. Access is via the lift up hinged lid. No Ventilation holes are provided on this model as there would to greater heat loss, resulting is excessive power consumption, however a pre-set pressure valve regulates the inside/outside pressure and is self-setting.

Power consumption: 42 watt @ 12 volts, 4.0. Amps at start up, reducing to typically 2.0amps at operating temperature. (depending on ambient)
Temperature control by microprocessor controller and pt100 class a sensor accurate to +/-0.2 degrees C or better
Single 60mm air circulation fan ensure even temperatures throughout the egg chamber.
